I came across this a while ago when the project first was announced but find it really fascinating and worth sharing for those who haven't seen it. NASA, the USGS, TIME, Google, and the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon University have created this project where, like a "flip book," you can navigate a map and see the last 30 years flick past your eyes in a few seconds. You can zoom into the map anywhere on Earth (except there doesn't seem to be an Antarctica , lol) and see how much urban growth has occurred, the change in water levels, and other big environmental changes.
You can play around with the map at: earthengine.google.org/
Click on one of the 'Featured Sites: Landsat Annual Timelapse 1984-2012' and that will take you to the interactive map. But be warned, it gets addicitive!
Here are some GIF examples:

Did you end up pledging anything Terry? I wish I could afford to... I wish I could afford enough to get a cool Puppycat toy or some other neat prize! I love this show and am really hanging out for more episodes!

I think anyone connected to him, like his brother and other family members, would enjoy creating stunts like these because it keeps him relevant and memories of him alive. Well that is unless of course he IS alive...

It will be interesting to see how this changes Twitter. Like how you have to pay real money on Facebook to promote posts etc. since it went public. I have to admit that I have never been able to get into Twitter though. I really don't think its purpose is very useful to me, and I seem to be the odd one out :/

My like was in appreciation of your joke. I do miss the old 'exalt' and 'smite' features. But, yeah... you're right...

Hi everyone good to see everyone after such a long time, I wonder if we can think of anything to discuss. I don't follow any web series anymore, but I may add to the music thread. Hi Rob! It's really great to see you here!

when did this term 'multi-channel network' come into use? 2012? when lisanova and other people started doing this stuff, i don't remember these acronyms. Since reading the posts here, I have to keep reminding myself that MCNs are not "modern cloth nappies" (diapers)... yep... that's an indication of the crowd I've been talking to lately...

One thing I've found with communities I'm part of on Facebook is that there is still a need to categorise discussion and the format fails at that, so what has ended up happening is multiple groups have evolved all related to the one community. It's a round-about way to do it I guess, but it is limiting as members have to ensure they join the additional groups to be involved with those discussions. I think if FB groups adopted some of the discussion forum format, we would have a much more ideal place to talk that fits our 2013 reliance on social networking. Although I must admit that I have enjoyed being away from Facebook. Sometimes life and Facebook become too entwined.

Any literature fans here? This guy gives amusing Sparknotes summaries and analyses of classic literature - "thug" style. I find them funny and informative! They would be good to use if you were a school teacher, hehe!

I think I've gotten 'lazier' with the internet these days. I used to visit lots of pages and now I filter almost everything through Facebook. I find a business I like? Better 'like' their Facebook so I don't forget. I find a website I like? Yep, 'liking' their Facebook page. Then I tend to visit the pages while I'm on there, or browse my feed until something takes my fancy. I'm part of private Facebook groups which are very similar to forums but a mess to navigate with only threads branching off an OP's post... but I've gotten accustomed to it over the last 12 months. It frankly scares me a bit! It's one step closer to being a meeper that I never wanted to take... help me 2007 version of myself! :/
