wow, the press is so amazingly lazy. the brother ended up claiming he was "a victim" of the hoax, when it seems most logical he set the whole thing up. the actress also claims via an alleged twitter (who knows who is running it) that its not her in the video. twitter.com/Alex_Tatarsky

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - Lariat
there was a time where malkmus playing music like this was radical. it stoppped being radical around 1994, but this new track is still sweet.

The charity is the Foundation to Decrease Worldsuck, which is also its goals. 100% of donations reach their target, which is pretty much whatever John and Hank Green decide. Yes, they are horrible liberals.
Currently Iran is in the lead with $110 raised.

It's actually just a donation to their charity, the auction is a silly way to do it.

Vlogbrothers World Cup Charity Auction
I donated for Honduras -- odds on Honduras winning the World Cup are 1500-1. But it would be ridiculous if England or the U.S. gets the most donations here!!

Going to go all proto-internet here for a second - and talk about the birth of UGC video. (Btw, mathieas is your supply an scantily-clad taryn southern gifs never-ending?) anyway, waaaaaaayyy back in 1986, madonna released the song "True Blue" as a single, and there was a "Make My Video" contest on MTV -- people made their own videos and sent them into MTV, who played all of them back-to-back for something like 24 hours straight ("Blue Thursday"). a winner was selected. i have a very vague memory of watching this as a youngster, many of the videos were really quite bad, but the ability to even HAVE such a contest was dictated by technology -- proliferation of VHS home video cameras (with sound!) to any extent was quite recent in 1986. i remember one of the videos was filled with pumpkins, and they smash one or more of them at the end by dropping it off a building -- i was completely perplexed by this total failure to make a real video - why would someone do this? the internet had not yet ruined civilization, the concept of trolling was actually not common. 20 years later, crap like this would be the fodder for what we now call "Viral videos"! Wikipedia has a good summary of the contest: link (see "Make My Video" contest section) The winning video: random entries online (its a shame I can find only Two?!?!) MTV clip about the contest: Apparently MTV expected a few dozen entries but instead were "swamped" - and got over 800 at least.

I just reread a 22 page transcript from a private chat from 10/2007 between UGC creators and Miles. It was just as the new site was launching but before UGC accts and widgets were introduced. Mostly we were complaining about the TOS. As I'm reading it, it looks like what EQAL intended to do with UGC is sort of create the very first MCN. The problem though is they were completely resistant to collaboration and/or integration. It's no wonder they went with a social network model. Still, I feel as if all the pieces were there. What a missed opportunity... edit: moved this from artwork thread, seemed more appropriate... i don't think I was present for that chat, but I do recall it happening. lg15.com had more problems than healthcare.gov, how many revamps did it go through in two years time?!?! TSIY was another MCN attempt, I guess. And after TSIY2 ended, Miles claimed the site would be back and the new TSIY would allow for stories of any type, not just lg15. --- Another BLUNDER: posting an open directory of lg15 videos on hymnofone.org -- including one video not yet uploaded from taylor, who was not even confirmed as canon yet, and many videos with alternate names. alissabrooke.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=plot&thread=835&page=1

Looking into the open-mic chat fiasco, i saw some of the many hilarious threads on the old Cove about things we laughed about when lg15/katemodern were live. What was your favorite creator fiasco? I'll start with a minor one, because I noted that my final sig at the old cove is "Can you pass me the Tampax?" -- a reference to the awful product placement they did in a KateModern video. with cove 2.0 gone and the lg15 forums gone, and bebo gone, the only discussion thread worth linking to is on lg15today: www.webseriestoday.com/2007/09/false-alarm-katemodern.html

now i am intrigued, i see where i emailed a yousendit link to the creators so they knew what we heard in the chatroom. i also see an email reference to the fact that we believed jess was going to leave the show soon based on what we heard. when bree was killed on the season finale (12 in 12) in early August, she was officially gone.

hmm, skunk, i think you are referencing a chat where jonas came in, and it was awful. around the same time, there was a chat were mesh came into the room -- let's see -- on June 18, 2007 - there is an old cove thread on the video where the discussion is far ranging, but we do not discuss that part -- alissabrooke.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=vid&thread=975&page=1...looking .... yes, yes, that had to be it. so i remember the creators were talking when they didn't know we were listening, about a character "isaac gilman" - this later turned out to be spencer's father. we didn't know that then, but i swooped over the youtube and created a channel for isaac gilman - www.youtube.com/user/isaacgilman/about -- created june 19, 2007.
